The
American Cancer Society is marking the 36th Great
American Smokeout on November 17... by
encouraging smokers to use the date to make a plan to quit, or to
plan in advance and quit smoking that day. By doing so, smokers
will be taking an important step towards a healthier life – one
that can lead to reducing cancer risk.
Cigarette smokers are encouraged to
quit smoking for at least 24 hours in the hope they might stop smoking.
The likelihood of permanently quitting
smoking is increased when effective therapies are used, such as physician assistance,
pharmacologic treatment, and behavioral counseling. Additional information about the
Great American Smokeout is available at http://www.cancer.org/
or by telephone, 800-227-2345.
