Results from Implementing Texas STEP's Model of Tobacco Enforcement^©

"For the last nine years, while Texas STEP was "sole provider" for the statewide training, technical assistance, and administration of the Texas Comptroller's tobacco compliance grants, we were able to facilitate, promote and support Texas' tobacco enforcement efforts with a new level of dedication, professionalism, and subject matter expertise.

The result of that dedicated effort resulted in exceptional performance & activity reporting by local law enforcement and school-based police agencies throughout Texas, which is illustrated in the following statistical graphing. 

* Note: all FY2011 numbers shown below do not include the final two months of enforcement activity or the final quarter of education efforts, but still show clearly the trending activities and efforts for each chart.

 

Texas Tobacco Retailers educated by local law enforcement increased.

 

Percentage of violations found during Tobacco Retailer store inspections decreased. 

 

Percentage of violations found during "stings" of Tobacco Retailer stores decreased. 

 

School-based Educators trained on tobacco law compliance increased. 

 

Parents of school-aged youth trained on tobacco law compliance increased.

 

School-aged youth trained on tobacco law compliance increased.

 

Citations issued for "Minor in Possession of Tobacco" decreased.
